HERE IT IS DBZ FANS, ALL THE EPISODES OF THE SAYAIN SAGA IN ONE GUIDE
Sayian Saga
1. The Arrival of Raditz
gs: Ted Cole (Raditz)
Born long ago of a primeval force on a faraway planet, the Saiyans developed into a warrior race so devastating and relentless
that their own planet did not survive their centuries of destruction. Now, one of them is coming to Earth to find his younger
brother, Goku! The mighty Saiyan warrior Raditz arrives on Earth searching for his brother Goku, who was sent to Earth as
a baby with a mission to destroy all traces of human life on Earth. However, Goku received a blow to his head upon his earthly
arrival, causing him to forget his mission of destruction. Goku has instead become Earth's most powerful defender. When Raditz
arrives, he tells Goku to destroy 100 earthlings by the next morning or Goku's son, Gohan, will be killed. After Goku refuses
his request, Raditz kidnaps Gohan.
b: 13-Sep-1996 pc: 2
NOTE: The Saiyan Saga begins this episode.
In the Japanese version, Gohan means rice.
Raditz tells Goku that planet Vegeta was destroyed by a meteor. Later in the Bardock movie, it is discovered why the remaining
Saiyans believed that. It was Frieza who created the lie and destroyed the planet himself.
When the Saiyan saga was first produced by Pioneer, it was known as the Vegeta saga.
In Spring 2003, FUNimation decided to re-dub the first and second season of DBZ, due to when Pioneer dubbed it, they fused
a lot of episodes into one, deleting a lot of scenes.
In Dragonball Z, there are less human-animals. (The animals that are like humans and can talk, walk on two feet, etc.)
Toei Animation title: "A Sheltered Boy: My Name is Gohan"
Dragon Ball Z aired from 1989 - 1996 in Japan.
In the timeline, Dragonball Z is 5 years after Dragonball ends.
Goku and Chichi are 23, Bulma, Yamcha, Tien is 27, Krillin is 24, Oolong is 20, Gohan is 4, not 5 like in the dub, and
Vegeta is 28.
The very first shot of Dragon Ball Z was not Raditz' pod flying through space, as FUNimation would have you believe. It
was actually the tranquil shots of the peaceful Earth, and accompanied with one of my favorite music cues from the original
score. Now THIS is the right way to start off a series! Gohan's first appearance in the Japanese version was in a forest scene.
The very first shot was of his tail (immediately suggesting to the audience who he must be related to), the second was of
the Dragon Ball on top of his hat, and this shot came soon after. A very well directed introduction, certainly much better
than FUNimation's. Kame Sennin is drinking a beer in the US version. Perhaps FUNimation just Americanized the brand. They
took away his Sapporo and gave him Coors.
In Japan Dragonball Z aired every Wednesday at 7PM on Fuji TV.
For an entire 153 episodes (the original DragonBall TV series), we don't even know that we're watching a member of the
Saiyan race! We first discover that Goku is indeed a Saiyan with the arrival of Raditz, Goku's older brother. Raditz explains
that Goku is one of four remaining Saiyans (Goku, Raditz, Nappa, and Vegeta). The "Saiya" are a fighting race that
eventually took over their home planet ("Planet Vegeta") from the technologically advanced but physically weak Tsufuru
race. The Saiyans were later employed by Freeza to take over planets, exterminating any life forms on them.

DBZ is the longest running show in Toonami history. Since it started airing August 31, 1998, DBZ has only been off the
block once.
Counter to fourth note: Actually, FUNimation has been in charge of the dubbing from the start, Pioneer payed them to distribute
the first two "Seasons" on video and produce the first three movies, because FUNimation was short on cash in the
early days.
Master Roshi touches Bulma's right breast, (to see if it has grown since he last saw her, of course!) and she konks him
on the head. Even though it's only 12 seconds, I wanted to make a note of this cut, as it was most definitely removed for
reasons besides running time.
THE CONTRIBUTORS above were both wrong... FUNimation originally did dub the first 2 sagas with OCEAN GROUP(a canadian
company). Years Later, when Dragonball Z came to toonami and FUNimation desired to continue it, it was just FUNimation by
themselves without OCEAN GROUP therefore leading to the music changes and voice change. If you miss the original saiyan Saga
voice and Namek Saga voice you can hear them in Canada on the YTV channel(from the middle of cell saga to the end).
DBZ is just the second phase in the Dragon Ball universe. It is followed by DragonBall GT, and takes place after the original
series Dragonball.
Dragonball Z'" is the anime name for the second part of the "Dragonball" manga by Akira Toriyama.
FUNimations episode titles for re-dub of this episode (Originally 2 episodes) is 1. The New Threat & 2. Reunions.
2. The World's Strongest Team
gs: Ted Cole (Raditz)
Goku is baffled about what to do until his arch enemy, Piccolo, appears. Piccolo joins forces with Goku to battle against
the Saiyan's threat to Earth. Both use every technique they possess against Raditz, but discover there is no power on Earth
capable of stopping Raditz.
b: 20-Sep-1996 pc: 3
NOTE: Here we are witnessed to Raditz's ultimate attack, Double Sunday when he destroys the mountains and a nearby forest.
The attack is not named in the Dub, Original Anime or the Manga. It was only named in the Budokai games, and they do not
count. "Thanks. I was wondering where he pulled that from. I assumed it was another unmarked Japanese move. Will be making
a FAQ notice acknowledging this shortly..." - powerpole
In relevence to the earlier note, the attack double sunday would count as the move Raditz uses since the company that
makes the games are the same company that created the dragonball tv series. "Accepting this to reply to your point: I'm
still not going to codone mixing the video game world with the show. Then, it's open to a million more things..." - powerpole
FUNimation's episode title for the re-dub of this [3rd] episode is Unlikely Alliance.
3. Gohan's Hidden Powers
gs: Ted Cole (Raditz)
When Raditz has Goku at the breaking point between torture and death, his Scouter goes crazy! Gohan has broken free of
the space capsule in which Raditz had imprisoned him. In a remarkable burst of power against Raditz, Gohan's Saiyan blood
shows through.
b: 27-Sep-1996 pc: 4
NOTE: This is the first appearance of the Special Beam Cannon; Piccolo's most powerful technique.
The Special Beam Cannon is originally known as the Ma-kan-kou-sappou, literally, "Demon's Light Drill" (more
or less....)
It actually means 'Screw Beam of the Devil'
4. Goku's Unusual Journey
gs: Ted Cole (Raditz)
Raditz is weakened by Gohan's burst of power, allowing Goku to grab Raditz in a bear hug. Piccolo summons an extra powerful
blast nicknamed the Special Beam Cannon to finish off Raditz, but his attack also ends Goku's life. Before Raditz dies, he
tells Piccolo that two other Saiyans who have even greater power are heading for Earth and will arrive within the year! While
Piccolo trains Gohan, Goku travels through Other World to visit Martial Arts Master, King Kai, to get superior training from
him in preparation for the upcoming battle against the Saiyans!
b: 04-Oct-1996 pc: 5
NOTE: This is the first time Goku has ever died.
Cuts: Chichi, worried about her men, calls the Kame house and gets the answering machine. Meanwhile, Ox King is playing
with the toy car he brought for Gohan, while Chichi has a few horrified thoughts about what might have befallen her son. "Was
he eaten by a shark? Stranded on an island with nothing to eat?" Pretty funny scene. Just after Piccolo drops Gohan in
the water to wake him up, Gohan starts running, well swimming, around, crying for his father, and saying that he is scared.
Since this was cut in the English version, it kind of looks funny: we see Gohan get tossed in the water, and in the very next
shot he is suddenly out of it, as if the water instantly disappeared. Also as a result of the cut, we get the impression that
Gohan doesn't seem all that concerned about where his father is, which is kind of odd, and the problem is worsened by the
next cut. This really shouldn't have been cut, it contains some very important dialogue that went untranslated and unexplained.
Piccolo is trying to get Gohan to calm down, and he finally tells him that his father is dead. Gohan is stunned, but Piccolo
softens the blow a bit by telling him that he will be wished back with the Dragon Balls, and that Gohan will see him in one
year. Until then, he and Piccolo will be training. This basically outlines the whole situation, and is an important and dramatic
moment. In the English version, Piccolo does not tell Gohan what happened, which kind of screws things up. Gohan just seems
to "know," even though he was never told. And it's not just these two cuts that have the subtle effect of making
the viewer feel much less sympathy for Gohan in the English version. Throughout these episodes, Masako Nozawa's performance
of Gohan elicits a LOT more pity than Saffron Henderson's. You really feel for the guy, he cries a lot more about the whole
situation, and seems so much more helpless. Saffron's "tough kid" performance, as well as the snippets here and
there, make him seem less human somehow. The music has a lot to do with it too, the Japanese score can bring a tear to your
eye every now and then, and it really touches you at a much deeper level than that superficial crap they replaced it with.
5. Gohan's Metamorphasis
Piccolo takes Gohan to a deserted wasteland to train him to utilize his incredible power. Gohan is left alone to survive
for six months, while Piccolo watches over him from afar. On the night of the first full moon, Piccolo witnesses an incredible
transformation as Gohan becomes a gigantic ape!
b: 11-Oct-1996 pc: 8
NOTE: This is the second time that the moon is destroyed in the course of the Dragonball series.
Piccolo removes Gohan's tail.
Piccolo gives Gohan a training gi and a sword. In a show of his ironic sense of humor, Piccolo makes it a copy of Goku's
gi, with one small change, the Kanji for Kame (Turtle) is switched with Ma (Demon).
Up to and including this episode, Piccolo has laughed five times. You won't hear that again until Goku starts getting
energy for the Spirit Bomb to defeat Buu.
Toei Animation title: The Death of Son Goku!
Oozaru now have the ability to fire energy blasts from their mouths (Goku never did that).
6. Gohan Makes a Friend
Gohan gradually gets used to living in the wasteland, even though he misses his parents. One day, he helps an injured
dinosaur and the two become friends. Later, Gohan's new friend is attacked by another evil dinosaur! See if Gohan can save
his new friend!
b: 18-Oct-1996 pc: 10
7. Trouble On Arlia
gs: Meredith McCoy (Launch)
The evil Saiyan warriors, Vegeta and Nappa, are getting closer to earth, eager to gather the seven Dragon Balls and realize
their wish for immortality. On the way to earth, the two warriors decide to stop by Planet Arlia to have some fun. Watch out
because fun to a Saiyan warrior means destruction!
b: 25-Oct-1996 pc: 11
NOTE: They (Vegeta & Nappa) aren't red! That's the ambience of the planet.
The part that was cut, however, so was a long scene of Lunch robbing a bank; her first appearance in DBZ. This was obviously
cut because none of the NA (North American) viewers were going to know who the hell Lunch is since most of the original Dragon
Ball was skipped. The holes left by this scene were filled in with some Gohan training sequences from Japanese episodes 12
and 13. This worked out quite tidily since the next episode was almost completely done away with, and the small amount of
footage that was left over had somewhere to go.
It is said that Launch goes looking for Tien when he goes to train (she's in love with him by the way), but the truth
is Akira Toriyama forgot about her, and by the time he remembered to include her, it was too late to bring her back.
8. Home for Infinite Losers
gs: Meredith McCoy (Launch)
Goku has fallen off Snake Way into the land of no return. There, two ogres give Goku a test; they promise that they will
show him the way back to Snake Way if he wins a competition against them.
b: 01-Nov-1996 pc: 12
NOTE: The better part of an entire episode got cut here. Originally, Japanese episode 12 marks Lunch's (or Launch's, if
you prefer) debut in DBZ. Because they had only dubbed the first 13 episodes of Dragon Ball at the time, they removed her
from the episode, as viewers wouldn't know who she is (Though they don't seem particularly bothered about the other characters
who weren't in the first 13 episodes, not even adding much introduction to them, so quite why they had to cut out most every
trace of Lunch. I'm not sure though). However this only left a few minutes of footage, so it was merged with the following
episode. This technique was used fairly frequently throughout the first two seasons.

This technique was used fairly frequently throughout the first two seasons.
In Japan, the Home For Infinite Losers is simply called HELL. Naturally, this was edited.
Another episode that was almost entirely cut, mostly because the plot centers around Lunch, a character US audiences were
never introduced to because most of Dragon Ball was skipped. The cut is rather unfortunate however, since this episode makes
such a good introduction to Tenshinhan and Chaozu for people who have never seen the original Dragon Ball (read, US viewers),
and a good re-introduction for those who have. As the English version stands now, they simply appear out of nowhere, which
is not the best way to introduce them. The remainder of the episode is made up of Gohan training sequences and Goku on Snake
Way, all of which were sprinkled about English episodes 7 and 8. The episode starts with Gohan sleeping under the stars,
having a nightmare about Raditz, and what happened to his dad. In his sleep, he calls for his father. Bulma and Krillin are
flying around looking for Tenshinhan and Chaozu, Bulma is wearing the scouter in order to detect him. Then, we see Tenshinhan
and Chaozu training under a waterfall, and Lunch calls both of them back to the house... uh... with her machine gun. She has
a big meal spread out for them, and Chaozu asks her where she got the money. When she tells the two of them that she robbed
a bank, Tenshinhan refuses to eat the food, and leaves. Lunch reacting to the earthquake, Tenshinhan saves her from a flood
that is caused by the mountain falling apart where the waterfall was resting. His outburst of energy sets the scouter off,
and Bulma and Krillin come to get him. Lunch sneezes, and thus returns to her "nice girl" self. She says that she
is going to the Kame House and bids Tenshinhan and Chaozu farewell. However, she finds a field of flowers and goes to lie
in them. This of course, makes her sneeze, and she turns back to her evil self once again. She returns to Tenshinhan's house
as Krillin and Bulma are filling him in on the details of what is going on. Lunch mocks Tenshinhan for going on this fool's
quest, but he pays no attention to her. He is ready and willing to defend the Earth.
Bora and Upa were also cut from this episode. They are seen when Launch is following Tien to Korin's Tower. Since she
isn't strong enough, she goes steals some stuff from Bora and Upa's house, and meets up with them.
9. Princess Snake's Hospitality
A selected group of warriors have gathered at the top of Korin Tower. There they will undergo the special training that
will prepare them for the Saiyans. Meanwhile, Goku reaches the end of Snake Way only to fall into the treacherous hands of
the beautiful Snake Princess.
b: 08-Nov-1996 pc: 14
NOTE: In the unedited version, while Goku was taking a bath, his buttocks were sticking out. It was cut out in the FUNimation
version.
In the Japanese version of this episode, one of the Princess Snake's aides, trying to make Goku stay by showing him how
to play Russian Roulette, she goes first, and then, she shoots herself. Goku says it is too dangerous...
10. Escape from Piccolo
gs: Saffron Henderson (Cheiko)
Gohan misses home very much. One day, he escapes the wilderness, but his handmade boat is wrecked in a storm. Gohan is
saved by orphan children on an island and makes some new friends. When he almost reaches home, Piccolo reminds him of his
mission: to save Earth!
b: 11-Sep-1998 pc: 15
NOTE: This episode was apparently skipped over during the original run in syndication, but has aired with the rest of
Season 1 on Cartoon Network.
In the original episode, Gohan stops himself from going home, remembering his father's sacrifice.
Toei Animation title: Run Gohan! Back to Mt. Paozu Where Chichi Waits.
This episode, and the next one, make up FUNimation's infamous "lost episode," which was never shown on North
American TV. This episode was not aired during the original run of the first season, when DBZ was in syndication. It seems
that Saban had some problems with the plot, which involves orphans, disrespecting authority, and other such naughty ideas,
so it never made it on the air. OK, fine. That's cleared up. Now onto today.
Most of a episode before Gohan gets shipwrecked was cut. After Gohan sails in the sand, he crashes and gets stranded on
a island. It takes him almost the whole episode to leave the island.
11. Showdown in the Past
Krillin, Tien, Chiaotzu, and Yamcha are training at Kami's lookout, but get frustrated at the speed of their training.
Mr. Popo instructs them to know themselves to become stronger, and to learn about their enemy to defeat it. Mr. Popo sends
their spirits to the virtual reality of the Pendulum Room, where the warriors experience the overwhelming power of the average
Saiyan. Then they learn the terrible reality that the two Saiyans who approaching Earth are twice as strong!
b: 15-Nov-1996 pc: 17
12. The End of Snakeway
gs: Ted Cole (Raditz)
Gohan's training under Piccolo continues. One night, Gohan suddenly transforms into a giant ape and attacks Piccolo! Piccolo
discovers that a moon image is being projected from Goku's old Saiyan space pod and Piccolo must destroy it before Gohan destroys
him! Meanwhile, Goku finally reaches the end of Snakeway and arrives to King Kai's small planet, which has ten times stronger
gravity than Earth's.
b: 03-Jan-1997 pc: 18
NOTE: This episode is remeniscent to Goku's Second (in series) transformation, both of them transform while in an electrical
attack, and break out of it using their X10 powers
The original name for King Kai is Kaio-Sama (a.k.a. The Lord Of Worlds)
13. A Fight Against Gravity...Catch Bubbles!
After Goku passes King Kai's test to make him laugh, the training begins! Goku's first task is to catch King Kai's pet
monkey, Bubbles. King Kai explains the Saiyan home world, the planet Vegeta, had the same gravity as his planet and that the
two Saiyans on their way to Earth are even stronger than King Kai himself.
b: 10-Jan-1997 pc: 19
NOTE: If I recall correctly, this is the only English Dragonball episode to have the same exact episode title as the Japanese
version.
14. The Legend of the Saiyans
Goku's next task is to hit Gregory, a super fast grasshopper, with a heavy hammer. Amazed at how quickly Goku can conquer
the gravity, King Kai decides to teach him the techniques "Kaio-Ken" and "Spirit Bomb". King Kai also
reveals information about Goku's Saiyan heritage. Goku learns the planet Vegeta had vanished and he was among only four Saiyan
survivors.
b: 17-Jan-1997 pc: 20
NOTE: The Kai-oh-ken is a power up technique where Goku can exponentially double or triple his power at the expense of
his health.
The Spirit Bomb (Genki-dama) is Goku's most powerful attack, but it has a few drawbacks. The most obvious one is it takes
time to charge up, drawing on the ki of all living things. Second, only those with pure and good hearts can use it. Goku cannot
create a "Genki-dama" when he's a Super Saiyan, but he can use it if it is already created. (See Movie #7 for all
the gory details)
Useless Fact: Kaio-ken roughly translates to "Kai Fist." For the DBZ: Budokai game, the Kaio-ken is referred
to as "King Kai Fist."
The only time in DBZ you see Adult Goku with a tail
15. A Black Day for Earth
Goku's training under King Kai is complete and he's ready for battle. Meanwhile, the two Saiyans, Vegeta and Nappa, arrive
on Earth as Piccolo and Gohan proceed toward them. Their purpose is to find the Dragon Balls and get their wish of immortality.
b: 24-Jan-1997 pc: 21
NOTE: Goku uses King Kai's telepathy to contact Master Roshi... who is on the toilet at the time. The gang hears him talking
to himself in the bathroom and figure him for a weirdo.
The blast Nappa used to level the city he and Vegeta landed in was felt hundreds of miles away by the Z Fighters.
In this episode, Vegeta has black hair. In the episodes leading up to the Saiyans' arrival, he has reddish/brown hair.
Although people say his hair changed, official art shows that Vegeta still has a reddish shine to his hair.
In the dubbed version, after Nappa blasts the city, he mentions that the people got away but they were actually killed
because no one could have survived a blast like that.
In the dubbed version, after Vegeta and Nappa crash through a few buildings while landing in their spacepods, they have
Vegeta say that it was Sunday, so people weren't inside those buildings but there really were people inside those buildings.
This episode is 1 year later. Goku and Chichi are 24, Krillin is 25, Gohan is 5, Bulma, Yamcha, Launch and Tien are 28,
Vegeta is 29 and Oolong is 21.
The attack Nappa uses to destroy the city is the Bakurimaha of 'Shockwave' technique. He uses a weaker version on Arlia
to vaporise some soliders.
The attack name is actually Bakuhatsuha. The dub name for it is Giant Storm.
16. The Battle Begins...Goku Where Are You?
Vegeta and Nappa reach Piccolo, Gohan and Krillin. Vegeta recognizes Piccolo as the one who told Raditz about the Dragon
Balls and reveals Piccolo is an alien from the planet Namek. Just as Tien, Chiaotzu and Yamcha arrive to fight, the Saiyans
grow plant monsters called Saibamen to fight them.
b: 01-Feb-1997 pc: 22
NOTE: In the dubbed version, after Nappa destroys a plane, Yamcha says that he can see the victims surviving by using
parachutes, but they really didn't survive.
We discover in this ep. that Piccolo and Kami are from outer space (The planet Namek, to be precise).
The link was explained much eariler on in the original, in a scene which Saban cut... - "Specifics? Please? [What
episode? What scene? etc. etc.]" - powerpole
In the original manga, the Saibamen were called Cultivars.
17. The Saibamen Strike
Earth's Special Forces show off their newly developed power in the battle against the six Saibamen.(Green colored, mindless
creatures grown from seeds that obey Nappa's and Vegeta's every whim) Yamcha beats the shit out of one but carelessly turns
his back on it because of his head strongness. He doesn't notice it get up and gets grabbed from behind! It squeezes the life
out of Yamcha and he can't break free. The Z fighters wait for him to break the hold when the Saibaman unexpectedly self-destructs!
Along with him taking Yamcha! The remaining Z fighters are now left to take on the Saibamen without him!
b: 08-Feb-1997 pc: 23
NOTE: The battle with the Saibamen was televised for a short while, giving those at the Kame House a chance to watch the
Z Fighters in action, and Yamcha's death. Needless to say, Bulma doesn't take it well....
Tien easily beat a single Saibaman, but when Yamcha battled one, it clung onto him and self-destructed. Krillen then used
one of his special attacks, because of his anger, that is never named in the dub, but is named Kakusandan in japanese. This
attack destroyed the remaining Saibamen.
Toei Animation title: Yamucha Dies! The Frightening Saiba Men.
In the original version, Yamcha's body is still on the ground after he was killed.
18. Nappa... The Invincible?
Nappa's power builds up and he sets his sights on Tien. A sneak attack by Chiaotzu seems to give the Earth's Special Forces
the upper hand but at what cost? Unscathed, Nappa emerges from the blast. Chaiaotzu has given his life in vain and failed
to help Tien. Piccolo plans a new attack, but will it work?
b: 15-Feb-1997 pc: 24
NOTE: In his powered up shield-state, Nappa manages to severe Tien Shinhan's arm.
Chiaotszu dies trying to blow up Nappa with him.
19. Tien Goes All Out!!
Tien uses all his powers to help Piccolo and Krillin fight the relentless Nappa, but Nappa continues to seem unstoppable.
Just when it looks like Nappa will finish off Piccolo and Krillin, Vegeta calls a break to see if Kakarot (Goku) will arrive
as Earth's Special Forces very survival depends solely on it.
b: 22-Feb-1997 pc: 25
NOTE: Tien Shinhan uses a Tri-Beam Cannon on Nappa, but his heart gives out and dies.
20. Time's Up!
When Goku is nowhere in sight, Nappa resumes his devastating fight against Earth's Special Forces. Suddenly, everyone
senses Goku's impending arrival and Vegeta discovers Goku's power level is at 5000 and still rising! He orders Nappa to finish
off Piccolo, Krillin and Gohan before Goku arrives.
b: 12-Apr-1997 pc: 27
NOTE: If Vegeta knows Goku's power level is 'at least' 5000 why would Nappa try to fight him at only 4000 when he knows
Goku is stronger? "Wait was Nappa's level ever mentioned or was that a guess pl? Cause that completely nulls your goof."
- powerpole
21. The Return of Goku
Krillin is defeated and Nappa fires a massive power blast to finish off Gohan. Before it's too late, Piccolo jumps in
the way and sacrifices himself to save Gohan. But Kami as well is killed and the seven Dragon Balls to wish everyone back
to life vanish. Enraged, Gohan uses all of his power to fight, but Nappa is too strong. Luckily, however, Goku finally arrives!
b: 19-Apr-1997 pc: 28
NOTE: First appearence of Krillin's new technique, Destructo Disc, "the spirit saw" (more or less). Had it hit
Nappa, it would have taken his head off.
Gohan uses the technique Piccolo taught him, the Ma-Sen-Kou, but it is slapped down by Nappa.
Gohan is rescued by Nimbus, Goku's flying cloud.
Nimbus seems bigger, and makes funny noises, like a broken car.
22. Goku Strikes Back
gs: Dan Woren (Drum) Meredith McCoy (Launch)
Goku surprises everyone with his new power and Vegeta orders Nappa to retreat. Instead, the enraged saiyan attacks Krillin
and Gohan, but Goku stops him by using his new Kaio-ken technique. Nappa pleads to Vegeta for help, but the ruthless Saiyan
kills him instead. Now, the stage is set for the showdown between Goku and Vegeta!
b: 26-Apr-1997 pc: 29
NOTE: Kaio-Ken, the technique Goku used to defeat Nappa, means "Fist of the Worlds"
Another Lunch scene is trashed, as FUNimation continues their efforts to block her out of the show completely. (Well,
that won't be too much of a problem for them, since she doesn't appear again until the Buu saga, about 250 episodes from now.)
The whole Lunch cover-up I can forgive, I guess, since no one who hasn't seen the original Dragon Ball (i.e. just about everyone
in North America) will know who the hell she is. Lunch is drinking in a bar, almost passed out. She is depressed about Tenshinhan's
death, and demands that the bartender give her more. Just then, they both feel what seems to be an earthquake, and rush outside
to see the sky clouding over and the birds going nuts. Then it cuts back to the battle. This scene was all too convenient
for FUNimation to get rid of, and has three knocks against it: First, it features Lunch, who is avoided in the English version.
Second, it has no bearing on the story, and is totally expendable. Third and most importantly, it is centered around alcohol,
a big, big, no no. All too easy to drop this one on the cutting room floor.
Nappa is crippled by Goku, Vegeta says he doesn't have time for loosers, throws Nappa in the air and kills him
23. Goku vs. Vegeta...A Saiyan Duel!!
Goku's now up against the powerful Saiyan prince, Vegeta. When Goku's double Kaio-Ken attack fails, Goku breaks his promise
to King Kai and uses the triple Kaio-Ken. On the verge of defeat, Vegeta decides to blow up Earth!
b: 03-May-1997 pc: 30
NOTE: Although Goku says Kaio-ken times 4 and it seems like his power increased, he did not really use Kaio-Ken times
4, he tried to but it was more like a state between 3 and 4 much like the the state between SS1 and SS2
Although Goku says Kaio-Ken X 4 and it seems like his power increased, he did not truly reach it. He tried to but it was
more like a state between 3 and 4 much like the state between a Super Saiyan and an Ascended Saiyan.
24. Vegeta...Saiyan Style!
Realizing Goku is much stronger than expected, Vegeta transforms into a giant ape, putting Goku in a tight spot. On their
way to Master Roshi's, Gohan and Krillin sense Goku's crisis and rush back to his aide. Meanwhile, Goku decides he has to
use his new technique, the Spirit Bomb, to stop Vegeta. But does he have enough time to do it?
b: 10-May-1997 pc: 32
NOTE: Unlike Gohan and Goku, Vegeta is able to control himself when Oozaru (Ape Transformation), and even talk, it is
assumed that only Elite Sayians can do this, since Bardock's team didn't seem to remember much of their Oozaru transformation
in the Bardock Special.
Goku might of had a chance if he knew either cutting off the tail or destroying the moon ball would change him back. Most
of his friends know this but never told him because it would mean telling him that he killed his grandfather.
The scenes of an Oozaru destroying things were of Goku destroying Pilaf's castle and the World Martial arts stadium
25. Stop Vegeta Now!
As Vegeta almost crushes Goku, Yajirobe manages to cut off his tail causing Vegeta to return to normal. Furious, Vegeta
attacks the other three warriors. Goku tells Gohan to fight against Vegeta to give Goku time to give the Spirit Bomb to Krillin.
b: 17-May-1997 pc: 33
NOTE: Krillin is the only other cast member to ever use the Spirit Bomb.
If Krillin failed with his Destructo Disc to cut off Vegeta's tail couldn't he just destroy the Power Ball? After all,
Turles blew his up pretty easily in Movie 3. "That's a good goof. Guess where that should be..." - powerpole
26. The Battle Ends
Despite getting hit by the Spirit Bomb, Vegeta is still going. Although injured and weak, he seems too strong for Earth's
warriors. But just before Vegeta can finish off Gohan, Gohan's tail grows back! Gohan then transforms into a giant ape and
starts attacking Vegeta!
b: 24-May-1997 pc: 35
NOTE: This is Gohan's last tail in the series, he has 2 more in the movies, giving him 5 in total.
This episode is on a Namek Saga DVD instead of a Saiyan Conflict one.
